Riu Reggae Montego Bay Review

Riu Reggae Montego Bay
Please let me go back I miss this place so much. Me and my wife spent two weeks here and loved it. The food was good, the booze was good, the staff were great in fact everything was irie.
We both love Jamaica and this is our 4th time we have visited. The previous times we stayed in Riu Negril.
We jumped a taxi from the airport which took around 8 minutes compared to the hour and a half drive to Negril – a major bonus straight away.
We checked in without any issue. We loved our room which was on the first floor with a sea view and a nice big bed. We had matching dressing gowns and a well-stocked fridge with Red Stripe. The view from our room was lovely.

Both pool areas are a good size with swim-up bars.  They play games and have the band play nearby the smaller pool.  The only slight criticism is the lack of shade other than around the bar, which gives you a good reason to stay nearby the bar. Bummer.  Both pools are next to the beach.
The beach was well kept and even though it’s man-made, the sand felt fine although a little hard and gritty in some areas.  It’s strange as there didn’t seem to be many fish which may be a result of it being man-made.  They have built walls between the resort and the area at the side of the hotel to stop the local weed-sellers from getting in.  They do shout through the fence and have canoes from which they sell selected items.  Some people might get upset that weed is sold quite openly but remember you are in Jamaica.  The other thing I miss was the buskers who are allowed on the beach in Negril, they are so funny.  I do think the beach would be a lot nicer if they removed the walls between the hotels, they are all RIU hotels so surely this would make sense and make a nice long beach.
The food was a good standard.  The buffet had a good selection and the daily Jerk chicken was amazing.  The a la carte restaurants were of a high standard.  The advantage over Negril is that you don’t need to book in advance and it was only one restaurant where you needed to wear long trousers which for a man frustrates the hell out of me when you get some women who look like they have been dragged through a bush wondering in without any issue.
ALL the staff work hard and they are very accommodating and friendly.  Stringbean is a legend that boy does not stop, the animation team as a whole are fantastic and really friendly.
The only minor gripes where the cleaners in the morning rattling their mop buckets on the stairs and people slamming their doors in the middle of the night.  Both of these could be remedied quite easily by the cleaner giving a shit about people being on holiday and some sort of cushion on the door.
I made a short video review that can be seen here
I would definitely return to this hotel and fully recommend it to anyone.  5 out of 5 for me.
